EMF Worksheet

There is often a significant lag time in cultural and scientific response to critical issues, like the toxicity of cigarettes and lead, and addressing climate change and peak oil. Although currently there is controversy about whether mobile phone EMF (electromagnetic frequencies) can cause serious pathology in humans, and while two or three decades is insufficient to determine the impact of lifelong low-grade exposure, there are already some studies linking exposure with lower survival rates from cancer and the World Health Organisation acknowledges that there is a possible risk of serious pathology. Swedish oncology research into radio frequency EMF (which includes mobile phones) concludes: ‘RF-EMF should be regarded as human carcinogen requiring urgent revision of current exposure guidelines.’ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25325361

There is also research showing an impact on sperm count (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25918601) and foetal (pre-birth) development ( http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2213879X14000583). Mobile phone use is linked with ‘…changes in brain activity, reaction times, and sleep patterns…’ (WHO: http://www.who.int/features/qa/30/en/).

Important to note is that where there is poor reception, the phone has to work harder to get a signal and therefore emits more EMF. How close you are to the phone is also very significant (exponential) so using hands-free when calling, and carrying the phone away from your body (in a bag rather than pocket) reduces the impact.

Exercises:

Consider what simple steps you would like to take to reduce EMF in your life and those around you - see http://www.emfanalysis.com/basic-steps/.

Reflect on how you respond to the idea of changing habits, and how you take care of yourself.

Daily practice - Listening within: EMF pollution is inviting us to consider the subtle ways in which these frequencies may be affecting us. Some people are able to identify specific sensations and symptoms that they get from EMF exposure. The wider invitation may be to listen within - to attend to the messages of our bodies and our emotions. Take a few minutes each day to sit somewhere quiet; focus on your breathing and then observe any emotions and physical sensations that arise. Choose one feeling and allow it to rise up in you and witness and acknowledge this part of yourself.

Stay present with it, observing how it shifts and changes as you attend to it. Do this without any attempt to change it - just being present with what is.
