Medical Steroids Worksheet
Since their development in the 1930s, manufactured mass-produced steroids have been used in vast quantities and in a variety of ways to change and artificially regulate the human body, eg. for contraception, treating illness and in sports. As well as the direct effect on the individual, there can be inherited effects, particularly if the mother used the contraceptive pill. Once steroids have passed through the body they are still chemically active and in this way they have entered our water supply and food chain. Therefore they now affect everyone and the whole environment (so much so that research by the UK Institute for Environment and Health has shown that a third of male fish have developed female characteristics).
Some examples of hormone disturbances are severe headaches and migraines, fibroids, Raynaud's syndrome, heart irregularities, thyroid problems and infertility. Also mood swings, irritability, premenstrual tension, depression and post natal depression, feeling ‘murderous’, thinking you are ‘going mad’ or a loss of sense of who you are.
This Resonance is intended to release any impact that medical steroids have had on the individual and to stabilise hormone levels.
Exercises:
- Reflect on how you relate to being your physical body. How were you taught to feel about your body as a child and how does this affect the way you are now? There may be specific memories or repeated phrases your parents/guardians used about the body, sexuality, toileting etc, or it may be more of a general feeling of connection or disconnection with your physical being.
- As medical steroids are used to change and artificially regulate the body, perhaps the invitation this toxin brings us is to accept ourselves as we are, both physically and emotionally. Tune into your body and acknowledge all that you are able to experience through your physical being – the smells, sights, sounds and sensations that make up your experience of the world. Think of three things that you deeply appreciate about your body and the experience of being physically in this world. Find a way to express your appreciation of the physical aspect of your being.
