Shock Worksheet

Significant shocks in life can put our system on permanent alert. Releasing these experiences can be like pressing a reset button, enhancing our ability to stay steady and grounded in this present moment, whatever happens, as the present is the only time there ever is. The aim is that this provides fertile ground for deeper growth and evolving through your life journey.

Shock Exercise:

Notice how you respond to surprises, sudden loud noises and sudden events or changes in plan. Tune in to when you feel steady and present and when you are keyed up, overwhelmed, or cutting off from the moment. What are your patterns of disconnection with ‘now’, and what supports you in becoming present? Pause frequently in your day and ask yourself the question ‘What am I feeling right now?’ You may find it helpful to write down a word describing how you feel each time you check in with yourself, and see how this changes through the day.

(If you are technically minded, there are a range of Mood Apps now available for tracking your feelings through the days and weeks. See https://moodapps.wordpress.com/ for reviews.)
